Duck that I'm unable to identify
18/05/2009 21:05:48 by Pam Wakefield

On three or four occasions I have spotted a pair of ducks. I've looked through three bird books and can't find anything like them. The male has a pure white crest, rather like a mohican hair cut with a black border don the back. It is a rather striking rust colour with patches of white on the body. It is slightly smaller than a mallard and does not mix with the group of mallards that live on the river naerby. The female is a grey mottled colour and also seems to have a crest on its head. What are they?
