During summer male is bright apple-green with distinctive yellow wing-bars. Juvenile and female (pictured) more grey with dark grey streaks, though still with yellow markings on wing. Look for greenfinch colonies (usually only two or three pairs nesting fairly close together). Resident throughout most of Britain (except the far North-West of Scotland), breeding in woodland, gardens, parks or even towns where they often visit nut-feeders.
