The smallest hirundine found in Britain, having pale brown-grey upperparts and white underparts, with a chin stripe of the same colour as upperparts. Flight fast, light and fluttering. Nests in sandy banks near water, often seen in large colonial groups just after or just before migration. Arrives in Europe and the UK during spring/early summer and leaves in late summer.
